Dolphins F.C is a football is one of Nigeria team players with their local base in the city of Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State of Nigeria, the club uses Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt for their local matches. 

The league has actually stayed long in existence as it was founded in the year 1988 with the name Eagle Cement, under Stanley Eguma who was the then manager during the time of Melford Okilo as the state governor.

In 1997, the team got their first promotion in the Nigeria Premier League during the champion league as Eagle Cement Football Club. This is just one among other several recorded awards.

They have also obtained champion award consecutively as performed during the annual knockout football competition and had won the official football association challenge cup in 2001 during which they modified their name to Dolphin Football Club. They also gained championship in 2004, 2006 and 2007 respectively.

They participated in the 2008 International Club Association Football Competition which is run by Confederation of African Football at U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

From all available records, the victory of Dolphin Football Club over Enugu Rangers was officially one of the Club's first League victories. They were demoted in 2007 by one point in the Nigeria Premier League but regained their position after they won Enugu Rangers in the Football Association Challenge Cup

Statistics show that they won twice by penalties, which includes a semi-winning over Crosstown Rivals Sharks, after which they later won final on penalties. They returned to the Premier League after winning their division in 2009.

The record of their champion extended also to the 2010/2011 national professional football league competition where a massive effort was displayed by their talented skilled players and they finally come out as the winning team.

The club changed their name in February 2016 to Rivers United Football Club by merging with Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt Rivers which was endorsed and approved by the league management company. It was formally requested by the state Governor which after the request was accepted and granted in the due course; following article A5.4 of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
